Tools & Materials
- Pressure-treated 2x6 boards
- Galvanized screws (3-inch)
- Wood preservative
- Level and circular saw
Steps
- Pry off loose treads, check stringers for rot.
- Cut new boards to length with a slight front lip.
- Drill pilot holes and screw down—two per stringer.
- Coat everything with preservative. Let dry two days.
Steady hands keep folks safe. Back in the day we fixed these same steps for thirty years running.
